I am just a month shy of turning 55. My mother made Spritz cookies every year since I'm guessing 1950 if not before. I can remember her Mirro cookie press like I it was in my hands just this morning. I remember the green nylon spoon with the melt mark on the handle that she used to stir the dough and fill the tube. The same spoon she would threaten to spank us with if we didn't behave. I remember the warped cookie sheet rocking when she first slid it into the oven. I remember the semi-clear, rectangular Tupperware container she stored them in. The one with the small piece broken off the corner of the lid. When my mom passed away in 2008 one thing she left us all with was the tradition of making these, like she did, every single year. To this day, every year, come hell or high water, no matter where each of us are or who we are with for the holidays, we all still make them. In all this time, after so many thousands of cookies, this is the first time I am hearing someone recommend buttering the cookie sheet. And this new info? Quite frankly, it is not registering with my brain. I don't even know where to put that kind of info!
