    I use this recipe for my Long Island Ice Tea (substituting Grand Marnier for the Tequila…makes my wife happier). But I refuse to add it to my cocktail recipe book. Instead, I watch this video of Anders while I’m making one. Every time! Just makes my wife and I laugh. Every time! 😅

    California Long Islands are kinda 50/50 on the tequila thing. It comes down to the bartender and is completely hit or miss.

    Love how you are smashed on the LIT by the end….. it's kinda part of the deal really. I don't have good associations with LITs or people who drink them. When I was young and waitressing I remember a man who refused to pay for his LIT as it didn't have any tea in it…..he didn't have any problem drinking it all though! It was an American restaurant franchise in Australia, so we always had to explain to the Australians the LIT wasn't actually a tea.

    This drink is infinately better with the Tequila removed (my personal preference is to replace it with Dark Rum). I find that the only prominent flavour is the Tequila when left in.

    In the 80s my out-at-the-club drink was a top-shelf long island easy on the triple sec. I would pound 5 to 10 per night. Awwww the good old days, I really miss the 80s it truly was a modern-day Sodom and Gomorrah, with a shit load of cocaine. Good times, very good times.

    When volume bartending in California, I omit the tequila mostly because it allows me to pour four bottles in one swing. Having a smoother profile is an added benefit. I pour .5 oz. each and add 2 oz. sweet & sour with just a tiny splash of coke. Give it a quick roll and serve it up, and to be honest it actually does taste like iced tea.

    Back in school right after our final exams we were partying/drinking on weekdays often. One night I got called to show up somewhere but the line for the club was way to long so I wanted to go somewhere else and grab a L.I.Ice-Tea on the way to catch up with the guys. As it was during the week the bar was already closing and had no ice. They shook one up with out ice anyways and it was the most disgusting drink I ever had. I still drank it on my 10 minute walk and as always it did the job and got me tipsy. But damn, I would never order one ever again. Not even if made with decent liquor and ice.

    My favorite bar in Bordeaux made a pint of this which totaly fucked me and my buddies up but we still went back every week for this, cheap mojitos and a good range of cocktails and beers (plus the people) !

    I only like my Wife's, I had it in other places but she worked in a bar for a while, I asked her to try the one I was drinking and please tell me what is that, that is making this nasty. She takes a sip "Triple sec" I was like thank you, now I know to tell the tender NOT to add that nasty taste. Crap now I am craving a fish filet from 1990s McDonalds.

    My twist is replacing the rhum by cuchaça, and adding one part peach liquor and half part crème de cassis (when I'm not using expensive brands, wich is most of the time for this kind of drink). It really brings the drink closer to what you would expect of an ice tea, and it's even more boozy so 2 birds with 1 stone

    Can anyone explain what the function of the Vodka is? As a tasteless and odorless spirit, I feel it is usually just used to increse the apv. But in this drink that seems completely unnecessary. Has anyone tried making it without the vodka and has some thoughts to share?

    Out here in California, we get whiskey (usually jack) in our long islands instead of tequila or rum. Seen different variations. This drink brings me back to being 21 and not knowing what a good drink to order is haha

    Haha, I'm only watching this video to see how to really make a Long Island. When I was a young restaurant worker and had to fill in to bartend I was told to make a L.I., just pour in a bit of all the clear booze from the rail, add lime juice (the mix) and top with Coke.

    this is generally my go-to if i've had a rough shift at work, though i like to add lime as well as lemon juice. not sure what it is about it but it just works for me

    One of my favorites. First time was at a club called "Mardi Gras" in Long Beach, Ca. $10 in a beach bucket and would last all night. Fantastic drink and I do not recall any Tequila in the mix.
